About the Author
Israel Houghton has garnered acclaim as one of Christian and Gospel music's foremost worship leaders, songwriters, recording artists, and producers. Engaged in full–time ministry since 1989, Israel has touched the hearts of millions across the globe through his anointed, God–inspired music.

In 1995, Israel and his wife, Meleasa Houghton, founded New Breed Ministries, an organization comprised of noted musicians and singers who serve within their respective churches and together serve the Church at large.
With a desire to draw people of all races, ages, and cultures together through worship, Israel and New Breed began melding sounds and songs to create music that breaks down barriers and defies categorization. Not an easy task, but it seems effortless for Israel who laughingly describes himself as "a black kid who grew up in a white family in a Hispanic neighborhood."

Together with the vocalists and musicians of New Breed, Israel uses his own multi–cultural upbringing as a reference point. "It's not a white sound or black sound, it's a Kingdom sound," explains the songwriter and producer.

Although their popularity had been growing steadily since the group's inception, they were catapulted into the limelight during 2005 with the release of their gold–certified CD, Live From Another Level. They followed this success with two others––the release of Alive in South Africa in late 2005, and A Timeless Christmas released in the fall of 2006. The accolades continued to flow including multiple Dove Awards and Stellar Awards, a Soul Train Award, and a Grammy Award. The group has also made numerous appearances at high–visibility events including the The Stellar Awards and The Dove Awards presentation shows, as well as BET's Lift Every Voice and Celebration of Gospel, TBN's Praise The Lord, and CBN's The 700 Club to name a few.

All the while, this dedicated group of ministers continues to tour extensively and to serve at their local churches. But, even with such busy schedules, Israel and New Breed have recorded two more CDs—Sound of the New Breed: Freedom, a studio album currently in stores, and A Deeper Level, a live CD that released in September '07.

Israel Houghton continues to serve as a worship leader at Houston's Lakewood Church. He and Meleasa make their home near Houston with their three young children.

Get Spiritually Real!

Israel Houghton challenges you to deeply explore and live your spirituality - today! Worship leader of Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church and Grammy Award-winning artist, Houghton quickly describes how fame and fortune are NOT the answer to a successful, vibrantly alive ministry. Indeed, that path begins IS a consecration of one's life, which means that the sacred penetrate every facet of one's mental, emotional, and physical experience. This is not a book for dabblers or observers!

Houghton and the New Breed Band ministry set aside a forty-day time period in which each person would conduct a media fast, healthier lifestyle and deeper prayer. The latter would mean more listening and perceiving rather than talking about one's desires or needs.

The results have been outstanding for each member and the band as a sacred body. Naturally the gap was filled with awareness of relationships needing forgiveness, an invitation to commune with God both with and without the Bible, a relinquishment of self-directed or useless busyness, a clarity about what foods or activities are actually essential to life, a union with God in place of ego-driven performance, an emphasis on spiritual character rather than visible talent, seeing the blessings in whatever comes one's way, and so much more. A must read for ALL leaders & anyone desiring to go DEEPER with God

This book was an easy read. It is simple & yet profound. The Truth of the Gospel is Simple yet Profound. We make it difficult, complicated & often unattainable, but the Simplicity of the Gospel is attainable, possible & accessible. All we need is the desire to want to know Him more. To say, "Lord, I believe, now help my unbelief." Or even, "Lord, I want to want more of you. Please put that hunger in my heart because I know that is a desire I should want." We should just ask for the DESIRE for more of Him & He'll begin to put those desires in our heart. This book is honest & practical...it's timely & NECESSARY if we truly want to walk in the power & authority we were created to walk in. It's a challenge to consecrate ourselves unto God so that we may draw nearer to Him, walk in the Power of the Holy Spirit & start changing this world, one person at a time. Heaven is here & now.....& this book challenges us to enter in the most Holy of Holies.......it is the CALL for our generation....but will we respond....??? Great read!!!

LOVE this book!

If you truly want to take your relationship with God and your worship to "A Deeper Level," then you NEED this book! Israel Houghton speaks frank but with great insite and conviction as he and his team take you through their 40-day fast and the revelation they received. After reading the introduction, my church's worship team decided to continue through the book as they too took part in a similar 40-day fast. I joined them and read through the book twice during the 40 days. It was amazing what God showed us through Israel's writings! Even if you are not ready for your own fast, this book is WORTH THE READ!

Shocked at the truth in this book

For me, this book above all other self-help books on the subject I've read really hit home. I was physically and emotionally abused for most of my childhood. Once I grew up and left home I became involved with emotionally abusive men again and again, for the last several years. I couldn't understand why I always seemed to pick the wrong guy, and why life was so painful, and demeaning. Through therapy and self-help books I was able to come to some realizations. This book was so powerful that halfway through I had to put it down for some time because the personal truths I arrived at were so painful to face. I hope any person out there who is going through or has been through an emotionally abusive relationship will give this book a try. It is well worth it.

Take the Time

It can take years, even a lifetime, to heal from emotional abuse. The author, Beverly Engel, lets us know within the first pages that she has endured a history of abuse, and from this background, she has made her career choices, mainly, to become a therapist helping others in similar circumstances.

The abused person is often taken by surprise, emotionally involved before the abuse fully takes hold. The abuser often has a two-sided personality, referred to as Jekyll and Hyde - one charming and intelligent and likeable, the other a cruel and perverse tormentor.

Engel writes: "It is often difficult for a woman to admit that she is indeed being emotionally abused, particularly if she is competent and successful in other respects... many women who are being emotionally abused do not even realize what is happening to them. Many suffer from the effects of emotional abuse - depression, lack of motivation, confusion, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, low self-esteem, feelings of failure, worthlessness, and hopelessness, self-blame, and self-destructiveness - but do not understand what is causing these symptoms."

The process seeps into the psyche like a slow poison, rearranging our ability to cope. "She has become so beaten down emotionally that she blames herself for the abuse. Her self-esteem is so low that she clings to her abuser."

Which is perhaps the hardest to understand, by the woman herself as well as family and friends who keep asking - "Why do you stay? Why do you put up with it?" - and never find a rational answer. There is none. Engel explains, "Emotional-abuse victims become so convinced they are worthless that they believe no one else could possibly want them. They stay in abusive situations because they believe they have nowhere else to go."

Engel takes us through the ways that emotional abuse expresses itself and how it works. "Emotionally abusive lovers and mates cause tremendous damage to a woman's ego. They have our trust, our vulnerability, our hearts, and our bodies. Using a variety of tactics, an abusive husband or lover can damage a woman's self-esteem, make her doubt her desirability and hate her body, and break her heart... When we love someone we tend to make excuses for his behavior; we always want to give him the benefit of the doubt. This is especially true when the other person is good to us in other ways." The abuser, Engel writes, makes his partner believe "she was so stupid, ugly, and unlovable that she was lucky to have him... told her she wasn't as pretty as the other girls he had dated, that she wasn't good in bed, and that his friends didn't think she was good enough for him."

And who is he? Often, Engel says, he is an addict of some kind, whether to alcohol or drugs or sex, and his own self-esteem is so low that he can keep a partner only by causing her self-esteem to be even lower than his own. He is frequently the product of abuse himself, often taking on the traits of his own abusers. He tends to be socially isolated, unable to maintain any healthy friendships or other relationships.

Once Engel has helped us understand the process and the damage done by it, she encourages and instructs on how to release years of pent-up rage in constructive manner, while rebuilding confidence. There are no shortcuts to healing. Finally, she helps us to understand how to stop repeating the cycle by finishing unfinished business, how to recognize the red flags of an abusive person when we first meet him. If we have not allowed the time to release our anger and heal the damage, we are doomed to repeat the pattern.

For this reason above all, this is an important book to read for anyone who has felt the lash of such abuse. Take the time to understand. Take the time to work through the damage. Take the time to heal. Take the time to nurture yourself back to health and rebuild your ability to love and to know real love when you meet it.

She helps to uncover the patterns and reasons for abuse,
ways to recover from it.
Like many women in emotionally abusive relationships, it
was very difficult for me to even see it occurring.
Her book is a constant reminder of how to stop the cycle,
both for me and for my children.

Easy to understand book, my copy was just in poor condition.

I rented this book from Amazon and the condition it came in was pretty bad. The back cover is partially attached and there are multiple users' highlights already in it.

The content in this edition is easy to understand but it also seems a bit outdated.

As a training and development practitioner, I would have liked to have seen the training section of the book expanded upon to incorporate the new challenges adult learners face, but that can also be addressed in another course.

So far the best and most engaging story of the Lola Lago series I have read so far. Lots of us of past tenses. I strongly recommend to install the "New Dictionary HISPANO Spanish-English v.3.0" on Kindle to help look up words.

This not an update of the 4th edition

This 5th edition is not exactly for the same users of the 4th edition. While it clearly reads in the publisher note on the back cover that the scope of this book includes aerospace engineering, it DOES NOT ANYMORE. This 5th edition has unfairly deleted the Aeronautics and Astronautics chapters. Furthermore is has reduced tremendously the Automatic Control chapters into one useless basic control chapter.

I do not understand the new editor's view of this strategy, but I am glad I still have my 4th edition copy. I will surely return the 5th edition copy because it is useless for aerospace engineers compared to the 4th edition oneEshbach's Handbook of Engineering Fundamentals, 4th Edition.

Human brain and spinal cord

best book available

As a first year neuroscience graduate student I had to hack through Martin's neuroanatomy textbook. Not until a month before my comprehensive exam did I discover this book - my girlfriend found a copy out on the sidewalk, left behind by a departing medical student probably - filled with hasty underlines and unintelligible scribbles in bic pen. But, it was a godsend. The quality of this text is immediately apparent to anyone who has tried to learn from it. If you begin from ignorance, use this book! If you already know everything go ahead and show off to yourself that you can understand Martin or for that matter a straight atlas of brain sections with no text at all! But for those who need concepts, themes, integrative explanations, this books is by far the best thing available.
The basic idea of this book is to provide a rudimentary brain atlas of real photographs with annotations, and then to go through each functional system separately and with schematic figures. The book is bound in waterproof material and even the pages are tough enough to withstand being dragged around, dripped on with coffee or with formaldehyde, etc.
I am not kidding, people, this book is supreme for its kind. We should thank Lennart Heimer for turning neuroanatomy from an arcane, incoherent list of latin names, into a simple, coherent, and fascinating course of study.
